Welcome Pain

I don’t usually put warnings up, but there are elements here that might be graphically disturbing. It’s a little poem about self-harm.

I’m lost inside my mind, I run,
My terror streams a comet tail
To mark my twisted path. I fall
Exhausted. Darkness closes in
Around me; icy fingers clutch
And tear my flesh. Such welcome pain.

And now I lie, scourged, flayed, at peace.
This dreadful calm, the cold relief
Of deathly stillness, silent mind
Washed clean by pain’s bright purity.
